Welcome to Ambleside
Ambleside is the country's most popular upland walking area being famous for mountaineering opportunities and rock climbing although it is also an ideal place to relax and unwind. The beautiful scenery, landscapes and natural beauty can also be enjoyed by a leisurely stroll in the hills.
Whether walking, cycling or driving within the Lake District, Ambleside is a convenient starting point and is situated only 20 miles from the M6 motorway at the head of Lake Windermere.
A short walk from the town centre are the Stockghyll Waterfalls or Waterhead that connects to the Lake Windermere Steamers for a cruise.
There are specialist shops selling outdoor equipment, craft shops, galleries and museums, a wide range of restaurants and pubs and with evening entertainment there is something for everyone to enjoy whilst visiting Ambleside.
